Person at Work: Shaping Stones (1A)

The first subject of my first round of assignments is a Palestinian sculptor at work in his workshop, near Bethlehem. The camera I used is a Minolta Dynax 5D, with a zoom lens locked at 31mm so as to match 50mm full frame. I struggled a bit with this setting since I am used to play with the zoom but, as the session was going ahead, I appreciated the strong need to move around the subject in search for new points of view. The scene was extremely interesting and rich of details. Without being fully aware of it, I am glad that I managed to show the sculptor's hands at work in most frames. Later, Homer Sykes pointed out that this is crucial to show what a person is doing. As obvious as it may seem, I fully grasped this basic idea only in retrospective. I guess this is a good example of finding visual keys to hit the target of a brief.
By the way, a big mistake I did was leaving my camera bag in the middle of the working space so that it ended up caught in many frames, and I realized it only when looking at the pictures on screen...
